A.W.A.R.E. = Aquatic World Awareness Responsibility Education

To take part in the Project A.W.A.R.E. Specialty-Programme you don´t have to be a qualified diver, and you don´t have to possess any diving or snorkeling experience. There is also no minimum age required.

The course has the goal to make divers and non-divers aware of the condition of the aquatic ecological systems of the earth, but also points out, what you can do as an individual, in order to protect the underwater world. This programme takes place only in the classroom, it contains no dives. It can be conducted as a separate programme or in connection with other PADI specialties.

The contents of the course Project A.W.A.R.E. Specialty Programme are:

  • The Project A.W.A.R.E. philosophy to protect the aquatic ecological systems of the earth.
  • The meaning and the dependancy of the aquatic ecological systems of the earth.
  • Relevant topics, which concern the condition of the aquatic ecological systems of the earth, including: interests of the fishery, management of coastal areas, sea contamination.
  • The condition of specific sea environments, whose destruction has already progressed far.
  • Suggestions and information about special actions, which can contribute to the protection and receipt of the aquatic ecological systems of the earth.

Beyond the course participation, can EVERY diver do something himself for the environment.

The world, in which we all live, depends very much upon natural resources. If the existence of these natural resources is declining, how will this affect our future?

The answer is easy:
it depends upon how we concern ourselves with this problem.

It is a fact today that the underwater world is affected by environmental pollution, overfishing, population growth, economic development and other factors, whose cause is that of mankind and nature.

Such proof, like the decrease of the reefs, destroyed sea areas, marine life getting caught in nets and dying are indications, which show us that our ecological systems under water are not healthy. The multiplicity of problems, which come worldwide into the underwater world are simple to recognise, but it is just as simple to see the possibilities which we have, in order to take actively part in the search for solutions.

The larger the number of those who support us with possible counter measures is, the smaller the problem appears. Whether you gather the next piece of waste which you find under water, support a more intensive environmental policy or organise an environmental project in your area, you are actively doing something . The possibilities are limited only by your fantasy.

Support the Project A.W.A.R.E. and help to find solutions!

What can you do for Project A.W.A.R.E.?

  • Participation in the annual, world-wide "Beach Clean Up".
  • Further training in diving,
is it within the PADI instruction system or specific Project A.W.A.R.E. Courses such as "Project A.W.A.R.E. Specialty" or "Project A.W.A.R.E. Fish Identification". Two further courses, which likewise, support the thoughts of Project A.W.A.R.E. are the "Peak Performace Buoyancy" and the "Unterwasser Naturalist".
  • Motivate other divers to behave in the water correctly and appropriately.
